Bacchanal, Boofest, cheesy songs of the 70's

My other favorite Jane stopped by to chat about Sunday's adult event, the Bacchanal.  It's a celebration of Art, Wine (that's why it's for the 21 and over crowd) and food at Spankies on Sunday.  It's a fundraiser for TTU's Fine Arts degree programs.  There's an auction and lovely things to buy and taste.  It's $40 in advance, $45 at the door from 1-5pm Sunday.  Go to tntech.edu/craftcenter/ or call 931-854-1050 to learn more.

It is my Beth's birthday.  Beth Chandler from Studio Six Limited is having a HUGE birthday today.  She's finally legal.

Boofest is this Saturday at the Rec Center by Cane Creek Park from noon to 4pm.  It's $2 and has trick or treat fun for the wee ones and kids in general.  There will be amphibians and arachnids too.  We took the girls last year and it was awesome.  They loved the princess room.

Lee found a very entertaining list of cheesy songs from the 70's.  It's worth a peek.  And I do take issue with some of them.  Even though I only know them because I'm a student of history.  But Rod Stewart?  Seriously?  I think not.  The explanation regarding Bread's Baby I'm A Want You is hilarious.  You don't have to know the song to love it.

Betonline.com has these odds on DWTS:

Brooke Burke (3-to-2)
Warren Sapp (2-to-1)
Lance Bass (3-to-1)
Susan Lucci (5-to-1)
Toni Braxton (5-to-1)
Cody Linley (7-to-1)
Maurice Greene (7-to-1)
Cloris Leachman (150-to-1)

But even if Cloris does leave this week (did you know she was turned down by producers twice for being too old before she landed a spot on the show?) she still has an Oscar and eight Emmys.

I must run, have to get to the job fair at the Towne Center.

THE WRONG WAY TO KEEP KIDS OUT OF YOUR YARD

Police in Ohio say an 89-year-old woman is facing a charge of petty theft because neighborhood children accuse her of refusing to give back their football. Edna Jester was arrested last week. Police say one child's father complained that Jester kept the youngsters' ball after it landed in her yard. Police Capt. James Schaffer says there has been an ongoing dispute in the neighborhood over kids' balls landing in the woman's yard. Jester is to appear in court next month. The maximum penalty for a petty theft conviction in Ohio is six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

A POSSIBLE ROADBLOCK TO THE WEDDING

A judge has ordered a suburban Chicago woman to stay away from her fiance -- two weeks before their planned wedding. Judge Stephen Gerard ordered 23-year-old Rucha Patel yesterday not to have contact with the man after she was charged with domestic abuse causing injury. Police says Patel drove over the man's foot and then bit his hand when he took away her keys to prevent her from driving yesterday. Patel told the judge the marriage was scheduled in two weeks, but the judge says the criminal charge takes precedence.

or YANKING A COLLEGE DIPLOMA

Brigham Young University has yanked the diploma of a man who created a calendar featuring shirtless Mormon missionaries. Chad Hardy attended graduation ceremonies Aug. 15 after finishing up his last four units of study online in June. But on July 13, in between completing his studies and the graduation ceremony, he was excommunicated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hardy's "Men on a Mission" calendar sold nearly 11,000 copies and features 12 church missionaries in mostly modest poses, minus their trademark white shirts, ties and name badges.
